Portugal – World’s Leading Destination
The elite of the travel industry gathered in Lisbon for the World Travel Awards Grand Final Gala Ceremony 2018. Portugal’s tourism economy was victorious in a range of different categories in the so-called Oscars of Tourism.
For the second consecutive year, Portugal was voted “World’s Leading Destination”, a distinction that helps strengthen country’s position in international tourism. The event’s host country was also voted “World’s Leading Tourism Board”.
On the other hand, Lisbon, which had already been voted best destination city in Europe, won the categories “World’s Leading City Destination”, confirming the Portuguese capital as a global tourist destination that cannot be skipped. It was also considered to be the “World’s Leading City Break Destination”.
In total, Portugal received sixteen world awards, highlighting, “World’s Leading Adventure Tourist Attraction” (Passadiços do Paiva), “World’s Leading Conservation Company” (Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua) and “World’s Leading Tourist Board” (Turismo de Portugal). Madeira island was voted again “World’s Leading Island Destination” winning the prize for the last four years.
