Immigration numbers – Portugal 2019

Portugal continues to show signs of vitality in relation to welcoming new expats.

According to official numbers just released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, around 83.000 new permits were issued. These numbers represent a 42% increase in relation to 2018.

In a parallel overview, the OECD considers Portugal to be the second country where immigration is fastest growing.

The Portuguese Ministry also announced that SEF (the Foreign and Borders Service) has registered a noteworthy increase in appointment scheduling, mainly for family reunification and renewal purposes. Thus, new inbounds are coming to stay.

Unfortunately, due to this increase, delays have been experienced. SEF will be implementing measures to increase scheduling and processing capacity.
